Why Your Website Isn't Getting Enquiries (and How to Fix It)

By REVV Up5 min read

A website can look great and still not bring in work. If people are visiting but not calling, booking or filling in the form, there's almost always a reason — and it's usually fixable without starting from scratch.

1. It's slow, especially on mobile

Most local searches happen on phones. If your site takes too long to load, people hit back and choose the next result. Oversized images, heavy page builders and too many plugins are the usual culprits. Test your site on your own phone, on mobile data, not just on office Wi-Fi.

2. Visitors can't tell what you do in five seconds

The first screen should answer three questions: what you do, who it's for and where you work. "Barbershop in Central Dunedin — walk-ins and online booking" beats a clever slogan that leaves people guessing.

3. There's no clear next step

Every page should make the next action obvious. Pick one main action and repeat it:

  • A visible "Book now", "Get a quote" or "Call us" button at the top
  • Click-to-call phone numbers on mobile
  • Short forms — only ask for what you genuinely need
  • A clear promise of what happens next, like "We'll reply within one business day"

4. There's nothing to build trust

People want proof before they get in touch. Real photos of your work, your team and your premises, Google reviews, before-and-afters and examples of past jobs all make visitors more confident. Stock photos and empty testimonial sections do the opposite.

5. You're not measuring anything

Without analytics and conversion tracking, you can't tell which pages, ads or channels bring in enquiries. Set up tracking for form submissions, calls and bookings so you can improve what works and fix what doesn't.

Quick answers

Why does my website get traffic but no leads?

Common causes are slow loading on mobile, unclear messaging, no obvious call-to-action, long forms, and a lack of trust signals like reviews and real photos.

How fast should a business website load?

As fast as possible — aim for the main content to appear within a couple of seconds on a mobile connection. Compress images and avoid heavy page builders.

Do I need a new website to get more enquiries?

Not always. Faster loading, clearer messaging, better calls-to-action and proper tracking can make a big difference on an existing site.
