How Much Do Facebook Ads Cost in New Zealand?

By REVV Up5 min read

There's no fixed price for Facebook or Instagram ads. You choose your budget, and Meta runs an auction every time an ad is shown. What you get for that budget depends on a handful of factors — most of which you can control.

You set the budget, the auction sets the price

With Meta Ads you choose a daily or total budget and Meta spends it showing your ads to the audience you've picked. You can start small and scale up, and you can pause at any time. There's no minimum contract with Meta itself.

Behind the scenes, your ad competes against every other business trying to reach the same people. The price you pay per thousand views (CPM) or per click (CPC) moves up and down with that competition.

What makes Facebook ads cost more (or less)

These are the biggest levers on what you pay for results:

  • Audience size and competition — small, heavily-targeted audiences usually cost more to reach
  • Time of year — costs typically climb around Black Friday and Christmas as big retailers flood the auction
  • Creative quality — ads people engage with are rewarded with cheaper delivery; dull ads cost more
  • Your offer — a strong, clear offer turns the same clicks into more leads
  • Your landing page — a slow or confusing page wastes the clicks you paid for

How to choose a starting budget

Pick an amount you can comfortably run consistently for at least three to four weeks. Meta's system needs time and data to learn who responds to your ads, so very short bursts or constant stop-starting usually performs worse.

Work backwards from what a customer is worth to you. If a new client is worth hundreds or thousands over time, you can afford to pay more to acquire one than a business selling a $20 product.

The numbers that actually matter

Cost per click and cost per view are easy to look at, but they don't pay the bills. Track cost per lead, cost per booking or cost per sale, and — where you can — return on ad spend (ROAS). An ad with expensive clicks that brings in paying customers beats cheap clicks that go nowhere.

Make sure tracking is set up properly from day one (the Meta Pixel and conversion events on your website), otherwise you're guessing.

Quick answers

What is the minimum budget for Facebook ads in NZ?

Meta lets you start with a small daily budget and there's no long-term contract. The better question is what budget you can run consistently for a few weeks so the campaign has time to learn.

Why are my Facebook ads getting more expensive?

Common causes are seasonal competition (especially Black Friday and Christmas), ad fatigue from showing the same creative too long, or an audience that's too small.

How do I lower my cost per lead on Facebook?

Improve the creative and the offer, refresh ads regularly, make the landing page fast and simple, and give campaigns enough budget and time to optimise.
