How to Get More Google Reviews for Your Local Business

By REVV Up4 min read

Google reviews are one of the strongest signals for showing up in local search and on Google Maps — and one of the first things customers check before choosing a business. The good news: most happy customers are willing to leave one. They just need to be asked at the right moment, in the easiest possible way.

Ask at the right moment

The best time to ask is right after a great experience — when the haircut is done and they love it, when the job is finished and they're happy, or when they've just said thank you. A quick, genuine "Would you mind leaving us a Google review? It really helps" works far better than a generic email weeks later.

Make it ridiculously easy

Every extra step loses people. Remove the searching and scrolling:

  • Use the review link from your Google Business Profile (look for "Ask for reviews") so customers land straight on the review box
  • Put that link behind an NFC review card or QR code at your counter — customers tap their phone and they're there
  • Add the link to your booking confirmations, invoices and follow-up texts
  • Keep it at the front desk, on the mirror, or on the table — wherever customers naturally pause

Reply to every review

Thank people for positive reviews and respond calmly and professionally to negative ones. Replies show future customers you care, and they show Google your profile is active and well managed.

What not to do

Don't buy reviews, write fake ones, or offer discounts and freebies in exchange for reviews — Google's policies prohibit incentivised reviews and they can be removed. Don't only ask the customers you know are happy while filtering out everyone else, either. Consistent, genuine reviews over time are what build trust.

Quick answers

How do I get a direct link for Google reviews?

In your Google Business Profile, choose "Ask for reviews" (or "Get more reviews") to copy a short link that opens the review box directly.

Can I offer a discount for a Google review?

No. Google's policies don't allow incentivised reviews, and they can be removed. Ask genuinely and make it easy instead.

Do Google reviews help with SEO?

Yes. Review quantity, quality and recency are part of how Google ranks local businesses in Maps and local search results.
